The Egyptian Museum Cairo

Visit the Greatest Treasure House on Earth

We have taken our children to the best and most famous museums in the world, London, New York, Washington DC, and hundreds of smaller stores of knowledge, but nothing can beat the amazing Egyptian Museum in Cairo. This is people’s favorite museum in the world, and it's a dusty slice of yesteryear for us, and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo is the greatest treasure on earth.
Chef and I visited Egypt about 20 years ago and the memories of our day in the museum are still alive for both of us, but now it's the children's turn.

Museum in Cairo

On that day in the museum, we were still strangers, after a few days we met her, our lives were intertwined and we're going to be the family that we are today, but this is another story. What about visiting the Egyptian Museum in Cairo today, what is it, is it accessible, is it still amazing, and how is security and how we arranged it?

The Egyptian Museum

They have so many treasures here that they don't know what to do with them. The building and the vast 100-year-old land are filled with artifacts, all of which are magnificent. The last discovery of Egypt, a statue of King Sammich I who I discovered on the outskirts of Cairo a few days ago, is already at the front of the museum. This civilization and culture were vast, and the extent of its blowing, new artifacts are constantly being discovered.

A month ago this statue was under Cairo. 3,000 years old, it's just a blocker. A new statue outside the Egyptian Museum.

The big clouds here, of course, are the elements from Tutankhamun's tomb. The king's boy passed away only 19 years old and was buried in unexplained amounts of treasure, most of which are on display. Think for a moment about the things that should be lost by thieves from other Egyptian rulers. Ramses the Great (Ramesses II) was ninety-nine years old when he died, so what should have been in his grave?

Tutankhamun's beard glued back on, say Egyptian museum conservatorsYou will see his solid golden mask, decorated with turquoise, pearl, and coral, as well as his own golden mummy belt, holsters, and jewelry. These invaluable items are located in a separate room in the museum and photography is not permitted. You just have to trust me in your breath, but most of us can use rejuvenation. Update: We have just returned from the tomb of King Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings, and we have seen his body, which was removed from his coffins, too much. He was just a boy and you can see that you cannot feel sad about this king who married his sister at the age of ten and died after 9 years.

This exhibition sometimes kicks off on a world tour, so check it out at the time of your visit. We will visit the tomb of King Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings and near Howard Carter's house in the coming days. This is how we do 'school' and it's so good!

Do You Need a Guide For the Egyptian Museum?

Our feeling is yes, sure. This museum is all that is a modern museum in the West, not unlike a huge one. It's spacious and you can easily spend a whole day here and don't get close to seeing everything. The displayed rating is not very impressive, and there is a general lack of marking and mapping. To find the museum's finest treasures, and often not the most spectacular, you need evidence. We've been with a guide for each of our visits, with a small group holiday for nearly 20 years, and today as a family, in both cases our guides were invaluable, if, at times, a little less than realistic.

This is the same big man, Khufu or Cheops, the creator of the Great Pyramid. This is the only resemblance to it in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and its length is about 5 cm. We wouldn't have found it without evidence. When you think Jesus was about 2000 years ago, double that time period and add another thousand, and this is how old this ivory little character is. After this man is in charge of the huge, unspeakable pyramid that is outside my window now. It just blows my mind.

The only resemblance to Nefertiti, the wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten in the Egyptian Museum. Nefertiti and her husband worshiped one GOD Aten, the sun disk.

Smaller and less flashy items like the 2 above are some of the museum's best treasures and it is almost impossible to find them without evidence.

You can get a guide at the museum, we were told that it costs 200 pounds, and our guide came with us from our hotel in Giza, and he also showed us about Cairo Castle for 300 pounds, about $ 15.

Admission Costs Cairo’s Egyptian Museum

We have found that all prices in Egypt are good, and there are always discounts for children even for my adult children. Usually, the price of a child is actually the price of a student, which is great to see. These were the prices when we visited and verified that they might have gone up.
  • The entry price for adults: approximately 80 pounds, $ 4.50
  • The admission price for children/students is approximately 40 pounds, $ 2.25
  • There was an additional entry fee for the Royal Mummy Gallery, 100 pounds, but there were no additional fees for the exhibition of King Tutankhamen.

How Long to Allow for Your Visit?

You can spend days here, like most museums, but allow 2-3 hours.

Is The Egyptian Museum Good for Kids?

The Egyptian Museum Good for Kids?

Only some mummies, adults, children, infants, and animals are displayed in the Cairo Museum. The Royal Mummies Gallery is separate and carries additional entrance fees.

Gorgeous! Of course. However, toddlers and pre-schoolers may get bored, especially if you are taking a tour targeting adults.

How We Arranged Visiting the Egyptian Museum

We were visiting from our guest house and Cairo house in the shadow of the pyramids in Giza. Strongly recommend staying there, it was great, but puts Cairo Museum about an hour's drive away depending on traffic. We visited a taxi, pick up our guide near the hotel and return with him, after several hours. We also took us to the Cairo Citadel, which was built by Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi at the time of the Ottomans and inside the magnificent Muhammad Ali Masjid. The castle is located on a hill overlooking Cairo, and these hills were quarries and a source of Giza stones. In times of the Nile floods, tons of stones were thrown from here to the pyramid construction sites on the other side of the Nile. I was touched by the history of Egypt, this post is supposed to be about visiting the Cairo Museum only, and the castle will have to have its own site soon.

We absolutely love our time in Egypt, it has been awesome so far, and there are many, many things that will come as we head south to Upper Egypt in search of Luxor, Aswan, and Abu Simbel. Stay in touch and don't miss a thing by subscribing to our newsletter. We can all get education together.
